We honor the nine moons, from Idim the first moon, to Luna, our current moon. Though the first eight moons are gone, their shadows are still cast in time. In the darkest days of the Second and Third Flowerings, when devils walked the earth and giants ruled, powerful mages took refuge in those memories of time and place, creating their own worlds and demiplanes safe from the suffering that rent Valbara. This is the Diaspora, and it is their knowledge that we seek. In the ages since their departure from our world, the inhabitants of the far-flung realms of the Diaspora have become divergent and strange, possessed of wisdom and ideas that would never occur to those of our world. But now it seems that with each turning of our moon one of those ancient voices goes forever silent.

There is a thing far beyond the most ancient moon, a thing of dreadful and heavy purpose. We call it the Sorrow, and we know not what it is. All we know is that it is closer now than ever. Help us, travelers, for we are afraid.
